Woman assaults in mall woman who also had child with her baby’s father: Beachwood police blotter

BEACHWOOD, Ohio — Assault: Cedar Road

At 5:05 p.m. Jan. 21, police arrested a Bedford woman, 20, for assaulting a Maple Heights woman, 22, at Beachwood Place. The victim was shopping at a mall store when the suspect noticed her and attacked her. The suspect pulled the victim’s hair and punched her. Police learned that both women had children by the same man.

The victim said she was unaware that the suspect was in the mall at the time she went shopping.

Theft: Richmond Road

At 5 p.m. Jan. 20, a representative of Les Lunettes Optique, 2101 Richmond Road at LaPlace, reported that a man stole three pair of glasses worth a total value of $10,500. The man has not been apprehended.

Disturbance: Chagrin Boulevard

At 3:45 p.m. Jan. 21, a motorist reported seeing a man and a woman in a passing car engaged in a physical altercation. Police located and stopped the car. The man who was driving, 20, of Warrensville Heights, and the female passenger, 20, of South Euclid, denied engaging in a physical altercation and were released.

Theft: Richmond Road

At 10:50 a.m. Jan. 21, a Kirtland man, 27, reported that he had parked a car belonging to his father behind his workplace, at 3355 Richmond Road, then later discovered that someone had stolen from the car its catalytic converter.

The theft occurred sometime between 5 p.m. Jan. 18 and the time the man called police.

Obstructing official business: Bryden Road

At 9:35 a.m. Jan. 21, police investigated a two-car crash and cited one of the drivers, a Cleveland woman, 20, for driving left of center, driving with a suspended license and obstructing official business.

OVI: Shaker Boulevard

At 11:15 p.m. Jan. 21, an officer stopped a car because of a marked lanes violation. It was then discovered that the driver, a Beachwood man, 37, was intoxicated. Police charged the man with OVI and having a blood-alcohol content of greater than .17, and cited him for the marked lanes violation.

Identity theft: Buckhurst Drive

At 8:10 p.m. Jan. 21, a Beachwood man, 72, reported that someone had used his identifying information to apply for unemployment benefits.

It was one of several such crimes reported last week. Two employees of the Beachwood City School District, a Cleveland woman, 46, and a Brecksville woman, 55, reported a similar crime at 9 a.m. Jan. 22, as did a fellow BCSD employee, an Orange man, 47, on the morning of Jan. 25. Also reporting ID theft for the purpose of seeking unemployment benefits was a Beachwood woman, 75, on the afternoon of Jan. 26.

Improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle: Cedar Road

At 4:35 p.m. Jan. 21, an officer stopped a car as it was leaving the Beachwood Place mall lot, 26300 Cedar Road, because the car had an improperly displayed license plate. Inside the car were three males — a Garfield Heights man, 20, who was driving; a Bedford Heights man, 18; and a Cleveland boy, 17.

Police went on to find in the car a loaded gun. The 18- and 20-year-old men were each charged with improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle, while the 20-year-old was also cited for the license plate violation.

Also found in the car were marijuana and marijuana paraphernalia, but police did not charge the suspects with a drug offense.

Failure to maintain reasonable control: Cedar Road

At 2:40 p.m. Jan. 21, police received a report of a car striking a streetlight pole at Cedar Road and George Zeiger Drive. Police located the car in the Beachwood Place lot and cited the driver, an Akron woman, 27, with failure to maintain reasonable control, driving with a suspended license and hit-skip.

Theft: Cedar Road

At 2:25 p.m. Jan. 22, police arrested a Cleveland man, 49, for stealing sunglasses valued at $1,297 from the Sunglass Hut at Beachwood Place.

The suspect was also found to be in possession of goods stolen from the mall’s Saks Fifth Avenue and Sephora stores.

Disturbance: Chagrin Boulevard

At 12:05 p.m. Jan. 26, police were called to Giant Eagle, 24601 Chagrin Blvd., where a man was smoking in the public restroom. While officers spoke with the man, he refused to identify himself. Police ended up arresting the Cleveland man, 38, on a charge of failure to disclose personal information.

DUS: Cedar Road

At 6:15 p.m. Jan. 26, an officer stopped a car after checking its registration and learning that the vehicle’s owner had a suspended license. The driver, a Euclid woman, 37, was cited for DUS. In her car, police also found a stolen handicap parking placard, which was seized.
