Beyond repair?

1st of all, wow! Where by has summer months absent? How can it perhaps be September previously???

This is only heading to be a quick weblog, but I just desired to share a little maintenance occupation that I’ve been operating on now. The consumer originally sent me an e mail a handful of months ago, as she’d been informed by a significant avenue jeweller that her sentimental gold dress ring, was not equipped to be resized. Que that minimal evil little bit in my brain that just desires to show them incorrect and demonstrate that it IS attainable, and voila! A single resized garnet and pearl dress ring. Certainly, it IS a fragile ring, so she’s not likely to be ready to dress in it just about every day, but at minimum it now CAN be worn, alternatively than remaining destined to sit in a box forever!

It is 9ct gold, set with garnets and pearls and is extremely delicate, but definitely not over and above repair service. It’s a “dress ring” and will never ever have been supposed to be worn all of the time.

The ring shank has some delicate engraving all all over it, and for the reason that it is a quite compact ring, the hallmark took up most of the offered room, so I had to pick wherever to make the cut really cautiously.

Incorporating the new gold

It’s all thanks to my Dado laser welder right here. It meant that I could add in a new section of gold and “weld” it in area devoid of risking heating (and ruining!) the pearls.

Cleaning up

At the time the new piece of gold was welded, it was just a situation of extremely carefully cleansing up the joins.

The more recent gold alloy was a slightly different color, but it’ll all blend in with a polish.

Prepared to dress in!

Of course, you can see the be part of if you seem carefully, but in some cases it is not all about entirely hiding the new element. This ring was about preservation and creating it wearable once again.

Polished and ready for numerous far more years!

A “very” cautious polish so as not to damage those delicate pearls, or to eliminate to a great deal of the character. In my impression, it’s ideal for an antique to search as these types of!
