Based On Its Popular Beauty Trends, Here’s What Each Decade Would Be As A Zodiac Sign
Over the past 100 years, makeup trends have changed over the decades, giving us a fun new vibes to experiment with. Here’s looking at them, and the zodiac sign they would belong to.
Aries: 1930s
The 30s were all about skinny eyebrows, lashes full of mascara, bright red lip colour, and loads of blush. Much like the Mars-ruled Aries folk, the reigning aesthetic was loud and sharply put-together. So, it didn’t speak softly through muted tones but screamed with hues and obvious shapes.
Taurus: 2020s
Venus-ruled Earth Sign Taurus is all about that relaxed, natural, “no-makeup” makeup aesthetic. Fresh and flushed skin, subtly tinted lips, and eye makeup done with neutral tones are what this decade and Taurus are all about. For them, makeup is about enhancement and being comfortable, and no decade represents that better than the one we are in right now.
Gemini: 1910s
Soft and breezy, the makeup in this era was really subtle. Much like the air sign Gemini, it was all about being effortless and fresh, not thick with layers of product. Since Geminis are all about that carefree vibe, this era’s minimal makeup reflects that.
Cancer: 1940s
Owing to the war, makeup in the 40s was minimal, barring red lipstick. But post-war makeup in the latter half of the decade was all about reclaiming one’s femininity with softly filled-in brows, a subtle flick of eyeliner, and “Victory Red” lipstick. Since the Moon-ruled sign of Cancer is all about vintage, classic, feminine style, this era reflects that aesthetic best.
Leo: 1950s
All the trends of the 40s intensified in the 50s. We saw thicker, arched, drawn-on eyebrows, paler skin, lots of blush to enhance the apples of the cheeks, rich and shiny red lipstick, and more poofy, big hairdos. The victory rolls women sported after the war is an example of this. Much like the sign of Leo, this decade was celebratory and loud.
Virgo: 2010s
Earth sign Virgo is obsessed with perfectionism, so this decade of heavy coverage and an excessively neat contouring, screams Virgo. Not one blemish was visible underneath the full-coverage makeup of this decade. If that wasn’t enough, the practicality of long-wearing, transfer-proof matte products is something that the pragmatic Virgo will enjoy the most. Of course, the popularity of earth tones and warm shades of browns is also something Earth signs love the most.
Libra: 2000s
If Libra could be a colour, it would be pink, and that alone is enough to make the 2000s a Libra era. Glossy pink lips, loads of blush, and a hyper-feminine aesthetic defined this era, making its makeup trends exactly like the quintessential Libra look.
Scorpio: 1920s
Dark and brooding, the deep wine lip colour, gothic eyebrows, heavily-powdered skin, and smokey eyeshadow of the silent film era represent the mysterious glamour of Scorpio best.
Sagittarius: 1980s
Fun, expressive, bold–these words describe both Sagittarius, and the reigning theme of 80s makeup. There is something so Sagittarian about the sportiness of the hairstyles, the wanton colourfulness in each look, and the disruptive newness of this era.
Capricorn: 1990s
If colours could represent Capricorn, we would pick either brown, black, or navy. Minimal, and elegant, Capricorn is all about that sleek 90s vibe, which is quite a departure from the vibrance of the 80s. The rich browns, sophisticated bar eyeliner, and pared-down hair looks were all in accord with the smart, work-appropriate look of Capricorn.
Aquarius: 1970s
Aquarius is the original bohemian flower child of the zodiac. All about the edgy and unusual, this sign is known for being experimental. What could represent the era of the 70s better, when each eyeshadow look was like watercolour, and oceanic shades of seafoam and turquoise reigned supreme in eyeshadows? The breathable base makeup channelled Aquarius’ air sign spirit, and the natural hair trends were perfectly in sync with Aquarius’ easy-breezy vibe.
Pisces: 1960s
Pisces is known for beautiful, fish-like eye looks, so the era of thick winged liner surely belongs to them. The prominent lashes and flicks of eyeliner popular in the 60s have Pisces written all over them. Add to that a touch of sea-blue on the eyes and a lotus-pink on the lips, and you have a decade that is defined by Pisces’ signature colours, too!
